In 2018, Montez Press took over the space at Mathew—a gallery in NYC—for the third summer in a row. For 30 days, 24 hours a day, content was streaming live from Chinatown, bringing together artists / writers / DJs / musicians / critics / theorists to explore the medium of radio.
Radio and publishing have much in common; radio is a seemingly obsolete and limited method of communication, yet, much like publishing, it continues to persist despite the ubiquity of image based technology. This month long installation encapsulated our specific moment in art, music, and media while also showcasing the work of historical and contemporary artists and organizations that inspire and inform Montez Press.
Guests of Printed Matter's New York Art Book Fair, Montez Press Radio was back on from September 20th-23rd. We were in the theater of MoMA PS1 on Friday and, in the spirit of pirate radio and the transient nature of air waves, stationed in an RV for entire duration of the weekend.
You can expect to hear from us regularly starting early 2019, so stay tuned, and keep in touch!
